Windsor Terrace Man Attempts Suicide in Subway after Fatally Stabbing Mother

A Brooklyn man allegedly stabbed his mother and father yesterday in Windsor Terrace before attempting suicide and jumping into the subway tracks of an ongoing train. Ryan Deyaney, 31, stabbed his parents on the porch of their home. According to the New York Daily News the police responded to a call at 8:15 a.m. yesterday and seven minutes later Deyaney ran into the 15th Street subway station and jumped in front of an oncoming G train. Deyaney, who struggled with drug addiction, survived the hit. His mother, Margaret, died at New York Methodist Hospital. His father, Raymond, remains in critical condition. Read more here.

9/11 Workers Approve Settlement of Claims after Years-Long Battle

More than 10,000 workers?who sued New York City because of health damages suffered while working in the 9/11 rescue approved a settlement today, according to The New York Times.? The settlement amounts?to $625 million and was approved by more than 95 percent of the workers.? The deadline for accepting or rejecting the settlement was this past Tuesday night.

In a statement, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said the settlement was fair and protected those who came to the aid of the city when it needed it most.

Those who sued the city included police officers, firefighters and other workers.? They claimed that the city failed to?provide them with?adequate protective equipment?during the aftermath of?the 9/11 attacks, which led to?respiratory and other illnesses that they suffered from later on.? Lawyers estimate that the payments to individuals will range from $3,250 to $1.8 million or more for the most severe injuries.

Brooklyn Nonprofit Loses $59K After Bribery Attempt

In a failed attempt to bribe a school principal and a custodian, the president of a Brooklyn nonprofit organization lost $59,000 in City Council grants, the New York Post reports. Gardy Barzela, the organization’s president, tried to bribe the school officials in order to garner support for his after-school program. An investigation by the Department of Education reportedly found extensive problems with the nonprofit’s program at PS 114 in Canarsie, including leaving the students to roam around between class dismissal at 2.50 p.m. and the program at 3 p.m. Mayor Bloomberg withdrew five grants to the nonprofit— Friends United Youth Center—once this was discovered.

Murder Suspect Arrested After Returning to Scene of Crime

Police arrested a suspect linked to a fatal shooting Tuesday morning when he returned to the scene of the murder and swooped underneath crime scene tape in attempt to sneak by officers, police said.

Salvador Avelino, 20, fled after allegedly shooting José Miguel Serrano-Mu?oz, 23, several times in the torso in front of the Donut Shoppe on Avenue U and 15^th Street around 4:48 a.m. Serrano-Mu?oz was rushed to Kings County Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police were called to the scene immediately and began closing the area off for investigation. While being questioned by the police, witnesses of the shooting then recognized Avelino as he returned to the scene and pointed him out to the police. According to a neighboring convenient store’s surveillance tape,?Avelino?casually walked by an officer while slipping under police tape.

Avelino?ran toward a subway station nearby, but was quickly apprehended. He is charged with murder two and criminal possession of a weapon.

Minutes before the shooting took place,?Avelino?entered the Donut Shoppe, where Serrano-Mu?oz and two unidentified men were already eating. The restaurant’s supervisor, Vidal Macoto-Torres said that?Avelino?ordered what he always ordered, a cheeseburger, he added. Serrano-Mu?oz and Salvador exchanged glances and then began arguing.

“It looked like they might have recognized each other, but they started to fight about why he was looking at them and why they were looking at him,” said Macoto-Torres.

Macoto-Torres said that after?Avelino?returned from the restaurant’s bathroom, Serrano-Mu?oz and the two other men promptly jumped?Avelino, leaving him injured outside the Donut Shoppe.

“Miguel wanted to start trouble. Salvador didn’t want to fight,” said Gustavol Gutierrez, a worker at the restaurant who witnessed the murder.

When the three men walked back inside the restaurant to finish their meal, Salvador went next door to his apartment upstairs to grab his gun, said Gutierrez. He returned to the restaurant and pointed the gun at Serrano-Mu?oz.

“Miguel and them, they laughed,” said Macoto-Torres. “They said, ‘That’s not a real gun, that’s a fake gun.’”?Avelino?then allegedly shot Serrano-Mu?oz multiple times in the stomach, said police. Macoto-Torres said the two men who were with Serrano-Mu?oz at the time attempted to catch?Avelino?when he fled, but were unsuccessful.

“I heard three shots across the street,” said Sammy Mohamed, a worker at the convenience store next to the Donut Shoppe. “Salvador didn’t talk a lot. He barely spoke any English, mainly Spanish. He hung out around this area most nights.” According to Mohamed, the store, otherwise known as Avenue U Candy Deli and Grocery, had surveillance video that filmed Avelino running away from the scene and returning to it a few minutes after.

“He was a quiet guy,” said Macoto-Torres. “He would order a cheeseburger everyday, no drink, just a cheeseburger. Sometimes once or twice a day.”

Although police could not confirm, witnesses at the scene reported that both parties were?drinking the night of the murder

Bed-Stuy Boy, 12, shot after the game

The New York Daily News reported that 12-year-old boy was injured shoulder walking home around midnight Sunday morning party.

Police do not know who shot the boy or why he was shot, according to the Daily News. According to the report, walking to the corner of Lafayette and Marcy Aves when he heard a gunshot and realized that he had been injured."He walked two blocks to the corner of DeKalb and birds Nostrand when there labeled by the police.

Wallbracketand logreports that a close case law enforcement official said the boy was not not a target of the shooting.

He was transported to hospital in Kings County and is in a stable state.

Brooklyn teacher fired after galant sex with 13 year, student

A teacher of junior high in Brooklyn was dismissed after it was discovered that he had a year with a 13 year old student case.

New York Post reports, former Wayne Bartley, 46, a Professor of science at KIPP AMP Academy Middle School conducted biweekly trysts with the student to a motel investigators Bronx.Les say Bartley has a fetish foot and convinced of the student to send photos of her feet and nude pictures with his iPhone.

Investigators also found that Bartley was to seduce the two other students.

After school program helps working parents

Sherry Rodriguez is a single mother working from two boys, ages 7-9, attending the in-school-time (OST) afterschool program P.S 282 Park Slope School. The OST programs provide students in neighborhoods across the city with a variety of academic, artistic, and recreational activities free of charge.

They last for three hours after school or for an entire day selected holidays.? RODRIGUEZ said that without this program would be forced to quit his job as an auditor at 14 H to take additional days off the coast during the school holidays and may accordingly be dismissed because his employer expects to work 9 to 5 h.

"For this program, I am 100 percent and able to work at my job,"says Rodriguez.""

A study conducted by NATO school, ? non-profit which assesses after school programs, found that Rodriguez experience is not unique. He reported last year that 74% of parents with children in programmes of the TSO considered easier to keep their jobs. A further 73% said that they missed less effort than before the inclusion of their children, while 71 percent reported that they were able to work more hours.

? "Jobs are very hard to find now.""If a parent loses his job I do now what they would do", was declared Bisi Ideraabdullah, Executive Director of the Imani House, a non-profit that helps low-income families and who administers the program OST-282 P.S.La House Imani estimated that approximately 80 percent of students in their program come from households with working parents. Working single parents strongly support on this program to keep their professional lives. "They are really now where to go. "When half day at school, they beg for help," said Idera-Abdullah.

"No program is guaranteed funding more exercise, and if we had lost the fight for the restoration of this year, the fight for good next year could be more before it, said Adviser Lewis Fidler.Il is a supporter of these programs and currently chairs the Committee on youth services."
