Residents of fort Greene are about to see a police presence already usual in the streets of the quartier.à his last community meeting, the 88th police Commissioner announced increased patrols on foot and overtime service agents in "the problem of the neighbourhood areas."
This action of the police is partly in response to pressure from citizens association recently formed organized after resident woman has attacked and robbed the month block last walk home from work.
The incident inspired by residents of the Adelphi, street where lived the victim to become more involved in their own security."I think that the police are the best they can, but I also think that they are overwhelmed,", says Sharon Ng, who lives on the street Adelphi.

Residents feel that an association would help the police keep eyes over the streets."I think that an association of block will be a success!" says ng, who has the intention of going door door to sign more people to take part in the association.
So far, the Group had an impact. Residents set up a list of requirements such as increased police presence and sent him to Mrs Letitia James, who achieve the Inspector Tasso, which has incorporated needs association newly-formed its new security and safety measures for the area.
Some residents had also promoted the idea of a neighbourhood patrol, but according to the 88th city, they are more sanctioned by the police.
In the Police Service in New York "patrol of observation civil" program, neighbourhood patrols have been trained by the city and patrol could anonymously report a crime 911.However, the new 911 system accessing the personal information of the appellants, in order to maintain anonymity is impossible. until a new system is developed, neighbourhood associations receive no official help of their city.
Alfred Chiodo, Director of Urban Affairs for the 35th district (which includes Fort Greene) to the Council of the city, says Adelphi, street, especially the block between Greene Avenue.et Fulton Street.is a magnet for crime."Not only is this block on the edge of the neighbourhood, but it is bordered by Fulton Street that does not have too many retail stores.""This makes the lone zone, it is easier for someone to escape without identified," explains.
Inspector Tasso identified Adelphi Street as part of a "problem area" Fulton Street Fort Greene and Fort Greene square Vanderbilt Avenue, where a number of assaults and robberies, almost all involving an African-American male author and a victim is a white woman.
But it is not only its location that makes Adelphi target 20 residents who participated in an impromptu meeting and informal block facile.Plus testified about such issues as the insufficient Street and stoop lighting and broken movement detectors it which made it difficult for even more alert to locate someone hiding in the shadows.
Despite the official position of the city on civilian patrols, Inspector Tasso believes that a good police-community relationship is important. ""You are our eyes and our ears", he said residents of the recent meeting of cité.Pour Adelphi residents have decided to form an informal alliance and watch for the moment.
Chiodo says training even informal meeting is a step in the right direction to improve the safety of the quartier.Il explains that since it would help people to know their neighbors, it would be easier to "find a person who does not belong."John Wise, Adelphi another resident said: "our bloc is not the most sociable, but I hope it's going aiderNous can take not only the small tangible steps, but also the main stages of community."
Meanwhile, those meeting neighbourhood have already started the better attention to the maintenance of headquarters and urged owners in order to improve the lighting on the stairway.
No further incidents have been reported in the area since the incident at the end septembre.Lawrence Young, a resident of 405 rue Adelphi, summarized succinctly new currency block, "we want people to know that it is our block and we are going to keep an eye on it.
