Fairest of the Holiday Fairs

Our holiday gift guide is brought to you by 20×200, curators of awesome, limited-edition art you can afford. Buy your prints before the 17th to get them in time for Christmas!

If you’re going to go out and really embrace this shopping season, crowds and all, there is no better place to gift-load than the holiday fair. Though you often walk away with far fewer presents than you’d hoped, the experience of wandering through aisles of jewelry and scented soaps, refueling on baked goods and running into friends is much more festive than shopping solo or at a desk.

There are so many fairs in Brooklyn we’re only highlighting the ones that begin this weekend, Dec. 4-5. Look for an updated list next week.

3rd Ward Handmade Holiday Fair
EAST WILLIAMSBURG For the past few years we’ve been media sponsors of 3rd Ward’s fair, and each year we’re impressed by how much fun they put into a potentially chaotic experience. (Last year, for instance, a random person in a Panda suit roamed the halls.) Cocktails and DJs take the edge off of crowded holiday fair shopping, and free demos on things like screenprinting (bring your own tote or shirt to print!) make the event worthwhile even if you don’t come home with gifts for everyone. We’ll be there from 2 to 3pm with The Shiny Squirrel and Of a Kind in our mobile pop up.?195 Morgan Ave. at Stagg St., L to Morgan stop, noon-6pm, Dec. 4

Nightwood Holiday Market
DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN Nightwood Design, makers of earthy-yet-modern furniture and textiles, have had a pop-up shop in the new be@schemerhorn building for over a month (Wed-Sun, 12-7), and for the next two weekends they’re inviting an eclectic bunch of local designers, artists and food vendors into their temporary home. Among the possible gifts to check off your list: a?Layerxlayer tote,?Gotham City honey and beeswax candles, and handmade tarot cards from artist?Amy von Harrington. If anything, consider this a chance to yearn for?Nightwood’s gorgeous beds and chairs in person. 200 Livingston St, between Hoyt and Smith Sts., 2/3, A/C, G to Hoyt St., noon to 6, Dec. 4-5 and Dec. 11-12

Berry Park Christkindlmarkt
WILLIAMSBURG This hard-to-pronounce fair is actually very straightforward: sip booze on Berry Park’s heated rooftop while browsing a small but cool selection of vendors like the makers of Bacon Marmalade, Sprout Wellness skincare, and Pumpkin & Honey Bunny holiday cards (the P&H behind P&H Soda!). Santa Claus will be in the house too, for your toddlers’ enjoyment. 4 Berry St. at N. 14th St., noon-6pm, Sunday Dec. 5

Greenpoint Holiday Craft Fair
GREENPOINT We stumbled on this fair on Greenpointers, and the stellar vendors jumped out at us. Angela Barrow, who makes beautiful braided jewelry under the name of Cheek-ie, invited equally impressive vendors like handmade and vintage clothiers Sodafine, chic vintage shop Dossier, and Max Wowch, maker of freaky cat tees, to this three-Saturday-long fair at the Lutheran Church of the Messiah. 129 Russell St., between Nassau & Driggs, G to Nassau, 10am-6pm, Dec. 4, 11 and 18

Artists and Fleas Brooklyn Holiday Bazaar
WILLIAMSBURG The year-round flea market is opening a special holiday market for the next three weekends, and the array of talented vendors ranges from the cheeky McBitterson’s Tasteless Wares (we fell in love with their stuffed cigarettes at the Bust Craftacular) to the beautiful and whimsical ceramic works of Michiko Shimada. N. 7th at Wythe Ave., L to Bedford Ave., 12-8pm Dec. 4-5, 11-12, and 18-19.

Makers Market
GOWANUS The Old American Can Factory, a hive of indie designers and artists, is running a cool series of materials-themed Makers Markets this year and next. A recent theme was Holiday Sugar, this Sunday it’s Holiday Ceramics in a variety of applications, from tableware to jewelry. The following two weekends mark the return of their all-purpose Holiday Makers Markets. You can scan the vendors scheduled for each here.?232 Third St., between 3rd and 4th Aves. F, N, R to 4th Ave. and 9th St., 11am-5pm Dec. 5 (wine reception 2-5), 11-12, 17-18

Waldorf Winter Fair
FORT GREENE This Sunday the Brooklyn Waldorf School’s Winter Fair will turn St. Felix into a kid-filled block party. A heated pavillion will house food and craft vendors, and there will be plenty of wintry delights like a “crystal cave,” and crafty demos on candlemaking, and puppetry to mesmerize the kiddos. 126 St. Felix, between Lafayette and Hanson Pl., B, Q, D, N/R, 2/3, 4/5 to Atlantic Ave., 11am-4pm Dec. 5
